So, while I've been away from blog-land, I made a few things which I'll post over the next few weeks. Let me start with this quilt that I made for a friend from her now two year old's baby clothes.
These clothes sat in a box next to my sewing machine for nearly a year before I had a chance to start the project. (Thank goodness my friend didn't mind that I held her sweet baby clothes hostage for that long!)
She gave me an idea of what she wanted - mainly something BIG! I got started.
The clothes still smelled like baby! Some of my friends know this; I'm a sucker for that smell. So cute. And here it is, the finished quilt! Yay!!! She only had to wait a year!

This is quite simply the most beautiful memory quilt I've ever seen ... Baby clothes are so stretchy that all the quilts I've seen end up lookin a bit 'lumpy' ... but this is really sublime!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I stabilized some of the really thin fabrics with a stretchy cotton interfacing, but most of them are not stabilized. The fabrics were a bit challenging to work with!
DeleteBrilliant, Stace! I wish I had been smart enough to request one.
ReplyDeleteAwesome, such a beautiful quilt! I had a bag of Zoey's old dresses literally fall on top of my head the other day (note to self: clean studio asap) and thought about making a quilt with them. Until she found them and cried at the idea of my putting scissors to them. Guess I'll wait a few more years.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant - I am completely in love with the circles. That design element really elevates this beyond the ordinary "quilt made of baby clothes".
ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely beautiful. I have two huge bags of my son's baby clothes that I've been saving for some divine inspiration. I've found it, thanks to you. :)
ReplyDeleteThat is fantastic! You should never have posted pictures of that. You will be receiving more boxes of baby clothes in the near future.
